More than thirty years ago, my mother left her home and family in small mountain town, to go to a lower altitude, with the sentence of death from heart trouble upon her should she return.

While living in Portland, Oregon, she met a young couple who were earnest students of Christian Science, the wife having been healed of consumption in its last stages. The grateful testimony and loving help of these students enabled my mother to come back to her home with a firm conviction of the truth of Christian Science, which never faltered, even in the face of ridicule and disdain. She never missed an opportunity to give "a reason of the hope" that was within her; and many were those who came to the truth through her courageous stand. In addition to the healing of heart trouble, inflammatory rheumatism and hernia were overcome, and adequate supply was demonstrated.

I did not study Christian Science until I married. Then it proved of inestimable help in the rearing of our four children. In these twenty years Science has never failed to regenerate and heal when earnestly applied. Through its teachings dominion was proved over contagious diseases: smallpox, measles, whooping cough, mumps, scarlet fever, and chicken pox. Severe burns were healed, a boil and festered toe opened and drained, and deeply embedded thorns were removed, through mental surgery alone.
