SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA (Second Church).—Dedication services of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Sydney, were held on Sunday, June 30, 1940.

The history of this church reveals that the congregation of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Sydney, had grown so large in 1922 that members began to consider the organization of a second branch, and as a number of members resided in the rapidly growing residential area of the North Shore, a room was engaged in the Town Hall, Chatswood, and the first service, a testimony meeting, was held in April, 1922. The following month the members met and resolved to convey to The Christian Science Board of Directors their desire to form a branch church, and in October of that year Second Church received formal recognition.

By 1927, the Sunday school, which had been built in 1924-25, was found inadequate for church services, and it was decided to build a permanent church edifice. On Thanksgiving Day, 1928, the first service was held in Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Sydney, whose imposing structure is so well known to local residents.—Sydney Broadcast.
