A Prayer

Father, give me an understanding heart
That I may hear Thy tender voice today,
And lovingly may walk the narrow way,
Praising and giving thanks—this be my part.
If I misunderstand the call to start,
Help me to faithful be, nor ever stray,
And silently in Thine own presence pray
For grace and strength to apprehend life's chart.

Dear, loving Father-Mother, make me pure,
That single-eyed, I may no evil see,
But know my brother as Thy perfect son.
Give me true courage that I may endure
All that would seem to separate from Thee,
Because I know that Thou and I are one.
