Colchester , Essex, England (First Church).—First Church of Christ, Scientist, Colchester, was dedicated on Sunday, October 16, 1938.

The history of the Christian Science movement in Colchester dates from 1907. In 1909 readings were begun in a cottage in Bergholt Road, which soon proved to be too small, and a room for services was hired at the Masonic Hall. In 1912 rooms at 150a High Street were rented to provide accomodation for the Sunday services.

In 1916 two Sunday services were held each week, and a testimony meeting on the last Sunday in the month after the morning service. In 1917 a Sunday school was started. In 1919 Christian Science Society, Colchester, was organized. In 1923 further accommodation was required, and premises in Lion Walk were purchased. In 1931 the society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Colchester.—Essex County Standard.
