"Gateway to harmony"

Who has not wished that a way might be shown whereby success, joy, peace, and harmony could be found? At times the way seems dark, and all doors seem closed because we have tried only the door which opens to discouragement, self-will, self-pity, and self-love. In Revelation we read the angelic message, "I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it." Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 10), "Spiritual attainments open the door to a higher understanding of the divine Life." This understanding brings joy, health, hope, and abundance. We can learn to shut out of our consciousness anything that is opposed to harmony, praying, as Jesus prayed, "Not as I will, but as thou wilt."

At a high altitude in the Alps, above the clouds in a clear, dry atmosphere, a traveler watched a severe electric storm in the valley. When the storms of sense seem to gather, we can rest in the consciousness of divine Love, high above the material clouds of doubt and fear.

There is only one way to harmony. We cannot find the way by entertaining opposite thoughts. When we choose the loving way, hate disappears. When we practice the Golden Rule, condemnatory, faultfinding, critical thoughts fade away, and we see the real man made "in the image of God," as the Bible tells us. As we choose this better way of thinking, our actions express loving, kindly consideration for those with whom we come in contact, and we experience that joy of which Jesus said, "Your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you."
