No Substitute for Demonstration

In the Church Manual (Art. XXX, Sect. 7) Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Healing the sick and the sinner with Truth demonstrates what we affirm of Christian Science, and nothing can substitute this demonstration." In line with this statement we find one from Paul, "My speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power."

By divine power human thought is lifted above the belief in two opposing forces, into the invigorating and regenerating understanding that there is but the one righteous, harmonious, wholly beneficent power of God, infinite good, infinitely manifested. The way of spiritual growth is always the way of demonstration, that is, proof in human experience of Spirit's omnipotence.

One noticeable change wrought in us through Christian Science is evidenced in the improved tone of our conversation. We learn to cease to voice discord, and this is one step in the right direction. The next and still more essential step is to supplant all wrong thinking by bringing our consciousness under the control of Christ, Truth, so that no false belief shall remain unchallenged. By this divinely accomplished regeneration the demonstration of health, beauty of character, peace, and poise goes forward.
