The recognition of the marvelous cures that are accomplished...

Register, Santa Ana

The recognition of the marvelous cures that are accomplished through Christian Science, in a press dispatch in the Register of April 2, is appreciated; but I wish to state that Christian Science has no similarity to Couéism.

M. Coué admitted that fundamentally his method was hypnotic. In other words, it depended on the human or carnal mind to destroy physical ailments. On the contrary, Christian Science lifts the human consciousness above the carnal mind and depends on God, infinite divine Mind, for healing. Christian Science is wholly spiritual in method and operation.

Jesus was the most successful practitioner of healing ever known to the world. He employed mental means to heal every type of sickness and disease, and he taught his followers to do the same healing works, but he never used or taught hypnotic suggestion or hypnotism. His cures were accomplished by prayer that was based on his spiritual understanding. He taught the goodness of God and the perfection of man, and said to a group of loyal followers, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The scientific nature of Jesus' teachings is indicated by the fact that the healing of sickness and sin by spiritual means was continued by the early Christians for about three hundred years after the ascension.
