Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

When a dispatch from New York City, covering an attack upon our Leader and our religion by a clergyman of that city, was carried in five Northern California newspapers, your Committee's full letter of correction was not only published in all of them, but was apparently welcomed by the editors. A sixth newspaper in Northern California also carried the story, but such was the apparent respect of the editor for our church and our Leader that he deleted all the offensive references to either before publishing it. In this spirit, corrections of press material in each of the various other instances requiring them have been received by the editors of newspapers.

Excerpts from our Lesson-Sermons and other material offered to newspapers have been increasingly used. The record with regard to the Lesson-Sermon excerpts, prepared by this office, shows that more of them have appeared in Northern California newspapers this year than ever before, there being one hundred and twelve newspapers carrying them, which is a gain of nineteen over last year.

In San Francisco, substantial excerpts from each Christian Science lecture delivered have been carried in three of the four newspapers. Branches of The Mother Church in the city have authorized the publication of a good advertisement of our textbook in connection with the publication of such excerpts. This has apparently been an effective and helpful activity.
