Discipline

The thought of discipline is often associated with irksome, and even unwilling obedience to rules and regulations devised by those in positions of authority to ensure the successful conduct of a public service, a bank, a business, and so on. Even so, it is generally recognized that such obedience is necessary. It may be that one cannot agree with some of the rules laid down. Nevertheless, here is an opportunity for the practice of selflessness, wisdom, trust in God, and the putting aside of self in order to co-operate with the requirements of an organization.

A dictionary defines "discipline" as "the treatment suited to a disciple or learner; education; training; drill."

Through the teaching of Christian Science it is possible to acquire a much better and happier idea of discipline. Its disciples or students are obtaining an understanding of God and His laws, and the relationship of man to God, which makes the discipline of practical obedience to the law of Love in individual thinking attractive and joyous. Although at times the endeavor to practice this obedience may seem to be difficult, it need never be irksome.
