Waiting

As the poppy waits the morning sun
Its petals to unfold,
Until upon a gladdened world
It smiles in radiant gold;
So, patiently,
I wait for Thee.

As the fledgling waits and with each flight
Increasing strength it tries,
Until above the mist and clouds
With fearless wing it flies,
Expectantly
I wait for Thee.

I wait in standing readiness
Mind's mandate to obey;
As a child lists its father's voice
And meets him on the way,
Attentively
I wait for Thee.

I'll wait till o'er this troubled world
Thy glory unconcealed
Shines forth, and to each doubting heart
Thy power is revealed:
So, eagerly,
I wait for Thee!
