I am most grateful for the spiritual unfoldment of Truth...

I am most grateful for the spiritual unfoldment of Truth which we gain daily through the study of Christian Science.

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 66), that "trials are proofs of God's care." As a young student of Christian Science I could not become reconciled to that statement, but experience has taught me the truth it contains, namely, that our trials are only opportunities to prove that God is the only power.

In a recent experience of mine, which was chiefly the result of the world-wide belief in depression, financial troubles came pouring in so fast that I began to feel like a sinking ship. The proof of God's care came to me in these comforting and illuminating words from a Christian Science lecture: "There is no past, present, or future—only the presence of God." I repeated this statement several times to let it fill my consciousness, until I could see only one "all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving" God (Science and Health, p. 587). This led my thoughts to where our Leader says on pages 109 and 110 of the textbook that "omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience" are "the three great verities of Spirit."
