Mercy

OUR beloved Way-shower, in his great discourse, said, "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy." What is mercy? It is defined as a "disposition to exercise compassion or forgiveness," and as "kind acts proceeding from inward compassion and desire to relieve such as are in want." Then, in order to receive mercy we are to exercise this quality toward others, for thus are we ourselves blessed.

Those reaching out for the true understanding of the sacred Scriptures find their answer in Christian Science, which was revealed to the receptive consciousness of Mary Baker Eddy. A great sense of unselfed love impelled her to present this revelation to all the world, so that each might individually demonstrate his identity as an eternal idea of the infinite, ever-present God, good.

On page 538 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our Leader writes, "Radiant with mercy and justice, the sword of Truth gleams afar and indicates the infinite distance between Truth and error." The sword of Truth is the Word of God. As God's scientific healing message permeates our consciousness, there unfolds to us the true sense of being, intact, immortal, changeless, eternal; and we are fed by the spirit of the Christ, Truth.
