Taking No Thought for the Body

Jesus' command to "take no thought ... for the body? may not seem easy to understand. From the human standpoint it seems natural to suppose that the physical conditions—the visible manifestations of sickness, discord, and lack—constitute the chief problem and are the primary things to be changed.

In her search for Truth our Leader learned the following truths, as she says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 108): "That all real being is in God, the divine Mind, and that Life, Truth, and Love are all-powerful and ever-present; that the opposite of Truth,—called error, sin, sickness, disease, death,—is the false testimony of false material sense, of mind in matter; that this false sense evolves, in belief, a subjective state of mortal mind which this same so-called mind names matter, thereby shutting out the true sense of Spirit."

As it becomes apparent that matter is but the unintelligent delineation of mortal mind, it will be seen that all error inheres in mortal mind, and that is where it must be rectified. Christ Jesus warned his hearers that it was not the things they ate which defiled them, but the things they thought.
