A Children's Carol

MARION ALICE BOWERS

At their task of quiet service
Lay the shepherds on the hill;
Wakeful, watching for the dawning,
While the waiting earth lay still.
When, behold, a mighty angel,
With a message glad and strong!
See the night aglow with glory,
Lo! the air is sweet with song.
Little children, at the dawning,
Hear the angels sing again—
For today is Christmas morning—
Peace on earth, good will to men!

And as we, with sweet obedience
And with hearts of gratitude,
Live our lives of loving labor,
Seeking always to be good,
We shall find and we shall follow
In the way that Jesus trod;
For the Christ is always with us,
Bringing lovely thoughts of God.
Loving children, at the dawning,
Hear the angels sing again—
Every day is Christmas morning—
Peace on earth, good will to men!
