Der Bund

In the Sunday issue of Der Bund there is a report of Professor Blanke's cathedral address in which he is said to have designated Christian Science as a sect because it is subject to human authority and disregards the authority of Christ. It is a noteworthy coincidence that in the same number of Der Bund, in the announcements of the church services for the fourth of March, the subject for the Christian Science service was "Christ Jesus," and that in this Lesson-Sermon occurs the following passage from the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 138): "Jesus established in the Christian era the precedent for all Christianity, theology, and healing. Christians are under as direct orders now, as they were then, to be Christlike, to possess the Christ-spirit, tofollow the Christ-example, and to heal the sick as well as the sinning." Instead of disregarding the authority of Christ, Christian Science rests upon it, and so honors the works as well as the words of Christ Jesus. And in regard to her attitude toward the Christ, Mary Baker Eddy said clearly enough to her followers (Message to The Mother Church for 1902, p. 4), "I again repeat, Follow your Leader, only so far as she follows Christ."
