The sincerity underlying the remarks of Observer justifies an answer in the same Christian spirit.

To the questions: Does Christian Science teach "that God is the creator, that God is perfect, that God is a real person, to whom we can pray as our Father," the answers are in the affirmative, "Yes"; but to further elucidate this truth, it should be explained that the concept of God presented in Christian Science is not one of belief in human personality, but one that coincides with the definition given by Jesus in John 4:24, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."

The spiritual understanding of the Scriptures reveals that the writer of the first chapter of Genesis perceived God as the great First Cause, the creative, perfect, real entity, as the Father of whom we all are heirs. Paul refers to this inheritance in Romans 8:15–17. A passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, also defines man's relationship to God (p. 470): "God is the creator of man, and, the divine Principle of man remaining perfect, the divine idea or reflection, man, remains perfect. Man is the expression of God's being."
