Over six years ago I developed tuberculosis of the lungs, this condition, according to medical theory, being the result of overstudy and lack of physical exercise. Through more mature knowledge, gained from the study of Christian Science, I now realize, however, that this state of ill health was the direct outcome of a lifelong dread of this particular form of disease. I was X-rayed, and thoroughly examined by a leading specialist, and by my company and family doctors, all examinations locating the trouble in the left lung, and diagnosing the affected portion as being fairly extensive.

Acting upon the advice of these three medical men, I immediately went into a sanatorium, where a week later an old friend visited me, introduced Christian Science to my notice, and recommended that I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I commenced the study of this book at once, reading it whenever possible, and almost from that moment I noticed distinct signs of improvement, the symptoms one by one disappearing. As I realized more and more of the nature of God as divine Love, my excessive fear of this dread disease began to abate, until it finally left me, to return no more.

After a period of one month I was again examined by the specialist, and I observed that he was agreeably surprised with my progress. As a result, I was permitted to walk two hundred yards daily, but I was feeling so fit that this daily exercise often lengthened into several miles, with no ill effects. Another month later, when I was due to be examined again, the original specialist was unable to attend, but another specialist of excellent repute came in his stead. He proceeded to X-ray me, and at once I perceived that he was quite nonplused. He X-rayed me a second time, then subjected me to every conceivable test, consulted my chart, and finally asked me which lung was supposed to be affected. When I replied that it was the left one, he said: "Well, it is most remarkable. I should have thought that if there had been any trouble at all, it would have been on the right side." This proves conclusively that the healing was complete, as he could discover no scar, which, medical theory informs us, is invariably apparent to the radiologist, after this disease has been arrested through trust in material means.
