A Great Friend

A CHRISTIAN SCIENCE READING ROOM may well be likened to a dear friend. The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, through her great love for humanity and guided by divine wisdom, made provision for such rooms, which are now to be found all over the world, extending to all a warm welcome.

What a comforting thought it is for an inexperienced traveler starting on a journey (maybe a very long one in a faraway land) to know that in the various places through which he is to pass there is a dear friend waiting to offer him welcome and hospitality!

A dictionary definition of "friend" reads, "One of the same nation." Is not the Christian Science Reading Room making all those who enter there feel they are of one nation, notwithstanding their different human nationalities and languages? For, as Mrs. Eddy has written (Poems, p. 22), "Love hath one race, one realm, one power." There the one universal language of Love is spoken, the language of Spirit, which can be understood by all. Many who have visited a Christian Science Reading Room have felt its beneficent influence and the healing atmosphere wherein may be found an answer to all human problems. There, all Mrs. Eddy's works can be read, together with the Bible; there, indeed, one can rest "beside the still waters" in that abundance of good so generously provided. Not only all the current issues of the periodicals of Christian Science can be read in Christian Science Reading Rooms, but also earlier articles can be referred to, since bound volumes of the periodicals are generally kept there.
