In an address by a well-known physician, as reported in...

Freeman-Journal

In an address by a well-known physician, as reported in your paper of September 11, the speaker said, "No physician, ... Christian Science healer, or others ever shortened a case of pneumonia other than by death." The doctor's admission that his own chosen system of healing never "shortened a case of pneumonia other than by death" must be authentic, since he is in a position to speak from personal experience.

But his attempt to attach to Christian Science the failure to heal disease which he acknowledged as applicable to his own system of medicine, was anomalous and revealed also an entire misconception of that Christian teaching. The only medicine of Christian Science is divine Mind, or God, who, the Bible declares, "healeth all thy diseases." Then, to claim that Christian Science is subject to the limitations of medical treatment is tantamount to claiming that God likewise is circumscribed by a similar limitation.

To assert that God is in any way subject to limitation is to deny His omnipotence. However, it is the known and acknowledged omnipotence of God which bases Christian Science treatment. And it is through the realization of His omnipotence that the impotence of disease or discord of any kind is revealed in Christian Science, with the resultant destruction of error and the demonstration of Truth or God as the healer of disease. When God is the healer, disease, instead of "running its course," as the physician admitted to be the case in his own form of treatment, is not only halted in its course, but destroyed.
