Duty

Dutifulness is so essential a virtue that every earnest student of Christian Science strives to embody it in his thinking and his conduct. The aim of scientific Christianity is to apply the revealed truth about God and the real man, and to fulfill our duty toward Him and to our fellow men. Christian Science is the rediscovery in this age of the true nature of God and His Christ, and of the true relationship between God and His perfect creation, including man, as indicated in the Master's statement, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

We learn in Christian Science that God is infinite, eternal, omnipresent Love; the sole creator, sustainer, and governor of the universe. God is infinite Mind, and creation is the expression or manifestation of this one infinite Mind. As Mind expresses itself in ideas or divine concepts, the only creation is the universe of God's thoughts, or spiritual ideas.

The Scriptures tell us that God made man in His image and likeness. We know that an image reflects the original; so that man's true function is to express or manifest divine ideas and qualities. His true mission is to bear perpetual witness to God's true nature as divine Love. Since "man is the expression of God's being," as Mrs. Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 470), his true selfhood can express only that which is Godlike.
