The Law of Righteousness

When the Psalmist sang, "The law of the Lord is perfect," he joyfully declared a great truth which has come ringing down the centuries. In all ages, men and women through spiritual discernment have caught glimpses of the underlying spiritual law of righteousness; and in his miracles Christ Jesus exemplified the availability of this healing law.

Not, however, until Mary Baker Eddy discovered Christian Science, and in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," maintained that there is a law of God applicable to the healing of discordant conditions, was the Science of Jesus' remarkable works discerned and explained; but before presenting her textbook to the world, our Leader put her statements to practical tests, thus proving their correctness. On page 417 she writes, "All causation is Mind, acting through spiritual law." The recognition that God, the first and only cause, is wholly perfect and good, governing man and the universe through eternal spiritual law, is the basis from which the student may being to prove the truth of Christian Science.

Mrs. Eddy makes the further statement (Science and Health, p. 318), "In Science man is governed by God, divine Principle, as numbers are controlled and proved by His laws." Acceptance of this truth awakens a desire to prove for one's self its correctness. Here the thought may present itself that a limited understanding of God's law excludes one from participating in any of its benefits. But this is not the case. A child beginning the study of mathematics might as reasonably assume that he could not solve the problem before him because he did not yet understand the more advanced branches of the subject. The rule which he is applying is a basic one, correct and unfailing; and he is therefore utilizing an invariable and unchanging rule. As he obediently applies that which he already comprehends, he finds the answer to the problem confronting him; and he also finds himself gaining a more comprehensive knowledge of mathematics with which to solve more difficult problmes as they are presented to him.
