It is over seven years since my first visit to a Christian Science practitioner. The blessings which have come to me since taking that momentous step are numerous, and I gladly recite a few of them for the benefit of any sufferer who may still be clinging to material means for healing and happiness.

From early childhood I had been prejudiced against Christian Science, due to the acceptance without investigation of much baseless criticism of Mrs. Eddy and herfollowers. My husband had read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in connection with the Bible for some years, and he sometimes read portions aloud to me; but I listened solely from a desire not to offend him, my entire experience having been so closely associated with sickness, hospitals, doctors, and nurses that any suggestion of sickness or disease being unreal seemed too absurd for consideration. In childhood and youth I received a thorough education in so-called hygienic and health laws, and reaped the reward of almost continuous poor health. This state I accepted without demurring until a condition of misplaced hip bone was diagnosed as incurable, and then my entire consciousness revolted against the decree. The misplacement had seemingly occurred ten years previously, when I had had a severe fall; but the disorders throughout almost my entire system were never diagnosed as due to that cause until a second fall after nine years aggravated the condition. Osteopathy was able to place the bone back into position, but the law seemed to be established that the bone had been so long out of its right place that it would not remain in position for any length of time, and there was no human means of holding it in place. After the second fall the pain was continuous whenever the bone was out of place, and sometimes I would have to have it replaced by an osteopath as often as twice in one day. At the age of twenty-seven I faced a future of pain and limited activity.

By this time I had heard enough about Christian Science to know that it held a promise of deliverance from sickness and suffering, and now that my accustomed material supports had failed I looked for salvation in a totally different direction and found it. I remember my first visit to the Christian Science practitioner and my question as to whether I should have the bone replaced by an osteopath when it came out of position. Her reply, to the effect that God needed no aid from any lesser agency, thoroughly satisfied me; and I determined to rely only on Christian Science. As she told me more about the promises of Christian Science, I desired to know all that I could of this teaching, and began at once to read the textbook, and all of Mrs. Eddy's other writings. I do not know just when the healing was effected; but it was between three and four months after I began to take treatments that the pain finally left me, never to return. The struggle and pain had often seemed severe, but I am glad to say that I was never tempted to return to an osteopath to have the bone replaced, although I often had every physical evidence that it was out of position. The healing has proved to be both permanent and complete, and I now rejoice in health and strength such as I never supposed possible.
