Rejuvenation

Through the deep religious experiences which tested the courage of the children of Israel and their obedience to the one God in the midst of the gross materialism of their time, a rich spiritual sense was developed which found expression in songs and hymns of remarkable beauty and of intense human interest. Throughout the Psalms runs the tone of victory, triumph, and praise, showing the rejuvenating power of divine Love, and indicating that fresh inspiration is gained as obedience, love, and adherence to duty bring to human consciousness a clearer vision of God.

How intimate and near to us become these God-fearing men and women of Bible times when, after we have faithfully held to our highest concept of Truth amidst difficulties that have tried our courage and tested our steadfastness, a new light has dawned! With the rejuvenation that has come with fresh inspiration, things have taken on a new appearance. And with those of centuries ago, we too, with hearts overflowing with gratitude, can say, "Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth."

What refreshment comes to the land after the barren wastes have been watered by heavy rains! The fresh young growth, expressing new vigor, always gladdens the heart; yet even in the barren waste lie the little seeds and roots, just waiting for moisture that they may spring up and grow. How often this has been seen in a desert place where no vegetation has been visible until rain watered the ground!
