The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Boston, Massachusetts (The Mother Church).

Lecturer: Salem Andrew Hart; introduced by Judge Samuel W. Greene, who said:—

The author of Luke's Gospel quotes the Master as saying, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." Having had some experience as a lecturer, I am of the opinion that this statement and promise applies with peculiar force to a Christian Science lecture audience. It is a voluntary audience, not under compulsion or persuasion. Everyone has come to receive something. Then let each one in the spirit enjoined, make an effort to give something. One can give courtesy and kindness to those around him as he waits, by having due regard for the proprieties of the occasion. One can give continued intelligent attention to the lecturer as he makes his effort to give. Then we may expect the result promised, good measure, pressed down and running over.
