[Written for the Sentinel]

Victory

Eternal as His light in the beginning
Remains thy every victory toward the light.
O brother, know thy way is forward winning;
Thy steps cannot lead backward to the night!

When false belief would bid thee cease, despairing,
Relinquish all the good that has been done,
And take thy seat and fold thy hands, not daring
To think a higher triumph may be won —

Then turn and face the lie with Truth unyielding,
And clear thy sight, and calm thy troubled heart.
Continue then, the sword of Spirit wielding,
To cleave the mist until false fears depart.

And all the whispered doubts, the troubled fretting,
The seeming foes that loomed shall prove as naught!
The Sun of righteousness can know no setting;
The child of God can have no troubled thought.
