Our Father's Good Pleasure

When Jesus said to his disciples, "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom," he told of an open door to heaven, a door which can never be closed, but is forever free of entrance to all men. "Your Father's good pleasure"! The Father of all men! And His good pleasure! Could words be more pregnant with hope and joy, with assurance and blessedness?

During the years of Jesus' ministry his every act proved the Father's good pleasure. Jesus' words and works all evidenced that God's pleasure is always good, and good only; he demonstrated beyond the possibility of questioning that God's only purpose is ever to bless. Jesus' whole earthly career proved that the Father has only life and Health and holiness and happiness—all good—for His creation. For nearly two thousand years these words of Jesus and his living example of their truthfulness have been before the world.

Because men have perhaps looked more on the sorrows than on the joys of Jesus' earth-life, they have been led to believe that God's pleasure for His children is not all good, but that it is at least mixed with evil, with disaster and woe. Christian Science, however, in direct line with all of Jesus' own words and works, reveals the glorious truth that from the one infinite God, who is infinite good, only good can possibly come. It also shows plainly that Jesus suffered for others' sins, not for his own, that he might prove that the understanding of God's good pleasure can and does annul both sin and its effects.
