"Behold, God is my salvation"

How variously have men viewed the Supreme Being! If one reads the hymns that used to be sung, he is impressed with the belief the authors must have had that the divine activities were largely occupied with the punishment of sinners. We find the following, for example, in the Tate and Brady collection:

"Treasures of everlasting might, in our Jehovah dwell;
He gives the conquest to the weak and treads their foes to hell."
