Christian Science has entirely changed my life by giving me a God whom I can intelligently worship, as well as a demonstrable religion. I was formerly a member of an orthodox church, striving to the best of my understanding to live the religion there taught, but I found during the lingering illness and passing on of two members of my immediate family that the God I had been taught to believe in was not available in time of great need. In my distress I yearned to know God as power, as a present God or "a God at hand ... and not a God afar off." When it seemed that I had no hope left, a friend asked me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This book was secured, and I spent every possible moment studying it. My desire to know God was answered, and with this came the peace "which passeth all understanding." Through the help of a practitioner I was healed of grief, fear, and chronic constipation. The protective power of Christian Science has been realized many times. I thank God for Christian Science; for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy; and for class instruction and membership in The Mother Church and a loyal branch church, as provided by the Manual of The Mother Church.
