The Lectures

Leeds, England (Second Church).

Lecturer: Dr. John M. Tutt; introduced by Wilfred Tempest, who said:—

Jesus said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The realization of this truth has come in a measure to me through the understanding of the Christ-teaching, revealed through a study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. "God is no respecter of persons;" and all may avail themselves of this loving message and gain freedom from fear, lack, sin, sickness, and all the etceteras which mankind, through erroneous thinking, has thought to be a necessary accompaniment to its existence. Christian Science was introduced to me about ten years ago, and these years have been the happiest of my life. My wife has been healed of many discordant conditions, including neuritis and neurasthenia. I myself suffered from deafness, which caused me much discomfort, and made my attendance at meetings very uninteresting unless I was seated quite close to the speaker. Christian Science healed me, and I have proved my ability to hear. Mrs. Eddy says on page 227 of our textbook, Science and Health: "Christian Science raises the standard of liberty and cries: 'Follow me! Escape from the bondage of sickness, sin, and death!' Jesus marked out the way. Citizens of the world, accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God' and be free! This is your divine right. The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being."
