Our critic will agree that the Bible records several instances of our Master's disbelief in the actual existence of material things, as, for example, in his passing out of the sight of a crowd, stilling the tempest, stepping into a boat and being immediately at the other side, and also entering a room the doors of which were shut. Christian Scientists maintain that these and various other acts of Christ Jesus and his disciples, including the healing of all manner of disease, were not miraculous, but were natural demonstrations of spiritual law,—spiritual law, which can be understood and made use of by any one in the proportion that such a one follows the narrow way of life laid down by our Master. Christian Scientists do not maintain that their own individual understanding is as yet equal to every emergency or demand—far from it; but they very humbly endeavor to put into practice the understanding they possess. There is to-day abundant evidence to show that through the study of the Bible, in conjunction with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the teachings of Christ Jesus are being so understood that the sinner is being reformed and the sick are being healed of all manner of disease. People who go to hospitals desire and receive medical treatment there. On the other hand, the help of Christian Science is ever available for those who turn to it.
