Letters from the Field

"After spending many months as a guest of the Benevolent Association, I long to give some adequate expression of the warmth of my gratitude to divine Love for this blessed institution. When I first made application for a room, there was none available; but when, after a struggle elsewhere, my faithful practitioner brought me to a beautiful place prepared for me at the sanatorium, I felt as a bird with an injured wing might feel if tenderly lifted into a great soft nest, high above the confusion and darkness of the scrub and brush below.

"Every day, as I saw blessing brought to so many, I appreciated more and more the proof of Mrs. Eddy's compassionate insight into the varied needs of students of Christian Science in providing such a refuge. It is a privilege and a joy to me to pay tribute to the unselfed love and consecrated service manifested by the nurses and other associates in all the multiple departments of the sanatorium. Their demonstration of Christianity fulfilled as high a standard as I have ever seen realized in a group of workers, and I felt myself to be a humble beneficiary of the harmony brought out by their practical devotion to the ideal of brotherly love portrayed by our Leader.

"It would be a pleasure to write in praise of the external beauties and resources of our sanatorium; but rather than do this I consider that one of the ways in which I can best repay a trifle of the great benefits and helpful lessons received there is to tell on every right occasion what I know of this oasis, where we may find protection and healing. Every true Christian Scientist desires to understand the mission and value of each department and activity of the Christian Science organization, in order to further its usefulness to humanity; and I recognize that because of the unique purpose and pioneer character of The Christian Science Benevolent Association, it particularly needs at this time the consideration and cooperation of every church member. The claim that it exists to benefit the few can be met through the understanding that every opportunity afforded by divine Love to receive of its bounty opens equally the unlimited opportunity to give.
