The Might of Mind

The world is awakening to the might of Mind. Slowly it may be, but surely, it is discerning the power of Spirit, and, proportionably, it is overcoming the belief in material force. To discern the power of Spirit or the might of Mind, an understanding of God must first be gained; and to promote this understanding has always been the aim of inspired religion. Christians look to Christ Jesus for enlightenment, and many to-day are finding in Christian Science the explanation of his profound knowledge of God and man.

To become acquainted then with the might of Mind, definite, accurate knowledge of God is first of all necessary. This is the province of Christian Science. The spiritual knowledge of Christ Jesus was profound; and Christian Science accepts the revelation of the Nazarene Prophet in its entirety, restating it in terms understandable to-day, throwing the clearest light on his words, and scientifically explaining the many gracious acts of healing which characterized his ministry. Thus it supplements the revelation of the Master, and is itself the final revelation of God to man.

God is known in Christian Science as Spirit, Mind, Love, Truth; and so, to know God in His completeness would be to apprehend all the varied activities of Spirit, Mind, Love, Truth,—obviously the work of eternity. But although that is true, it is possible for mankind to learn a great deal about God and His manifestation, man, and—what is of the utmost importance—how to apply the knowledge obtained to the problems of human existence. Thus, for example, God is revealed by Christian Science to be infinite good, omnipresent and omnipotent Mind; to be the All-in-all, the infinite One, existing without an opposite. It follows that what men call matter or evil has only a seeming existence, since infinite Mind can have no opposite and infinite good no opposition. These are fundamental propositions in Christian Science; and on the realization of them depends the world's redemption from evil of every description. In the light of Christian Science the meaning and the truthfulness of Isaiah's words become understandable: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
