Safety

On nearly every hand in the realm of human experience there seems to be so much discord and danger that one unfamiliar with the divine Principle and rule of Christian Science practice may be pardoned for wondering whether or not mankind will ever find it possible to enjoy here a sure and abiding sense of security.

To the questioning heart, Christian Science comes with its joyful message of assurance. Based on the Scriptures, Christian Science points to them for abundant evidence that God's law, when understood and obeyed, is capable of replacing discord and danger with peace and safety. Furthermore, Christian Science points out that God is the same yesterday, to-day, and forever, and that that which was possible with God yesterday is possible to-day. There is no Scriptural authority for Christendom's cry that the age of miracles is past!

Here let it be understood that the word "miracle," derived from the Latin word miraculum, means simply a wonder. But the word is now generally taken to mean an event or effect deviating from or in violation of the so-called laws of matter and customary human experience. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and author of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," explains these so-called deviations or violations, so puzzling to the popular thought, as natural demonstrations of divine law. On page 591 of Science and Health she defines "miracle" thus: "That which is divinely natural, but must be learned humanly; a phenomenon of Science."
