Modern Churchman

Christian Science is not based on superstition; it is absolutely free from it. There is nothing superstitious in declaring that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that the universe, including man, is the spiritual manifestation of God. Christian Science states a correct premise about God, and draws a correct conclusion therefrom. It is true idealism, and is discerned only by those who are spiritually awake. Christian Science has nothing in common with psychoanalysis, hypnotism, mesmerism, or any of the methods of the so-called carnal mind; suggestion does not enter into its practice. With regard to Christian Science treatment, no formulas are used. The erroneous beliefs of the patient are destroyed by the truth in precisely the same way that the wrong belief that two and two make five would be destroyed by the understanding of the truth that two and two make four. Christian Science treatment, therefore, destroys erroneous mental belief, which is the cause of physical discord. To say that "Christian Science concentrates on the body, which it denies," is a mistake. The healing of sinful beliefs is the most important work of Christian Science.
