Poise

LEVEL -headedness and poise are considered to be great assets in the business world and in human experience generally. How frequently one hears people say, "I wish he [or she] had better judgement, and was not so fearful and so easily rushed into hurried and perhaps unwise decisions." In writing to Timothy, Paul said, "God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of a sound mind." Nevertheless, few saw, prior to the discovery of Christian Science by Mary Baker Eddy, that man's normal and natural condition is to have express that poise and sound judgement after which mankind is striving so eagerly.

There are all too many systems or methods advertised to-day assuring success, if advice as to the repetition of certain formulae or the exercise of will-power is carefully followed. They are, however, but so many houses built on sand. They collapse eventually, as certainly as they are foundationless. Christian Science, revealing in all its simplicity the truth about God, man, and the universe, explains how man already possesses the very qualities men believe they have not.

The writer of the book of Genesis, in the account of the spiritual creation, declares, "God created man in his own image," and then goes on to state: "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. . . . Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them." This spiritual, good, perfect creation is the creation which Christian Science reveals as the only, the real creation. John also, in the first chapter of his gospel, declares that "all things were made by him [God]; and without him was not any thing made that was made."
