Christian Science teaches that pain, disease, and death...

Christian Science teaches that pain, disease, and death are illusive errors of the so-called carnal mind. Although, to mortals, these errors may seem apparent, they are not real because they are not created by God. A suffering mortal is really the victim of mesmerism, induced by fear, ignorance, or sin. Christian Science practice is not a form of mesmerism or suggestion. Neither is it an effort to heal by human will-power. Christian Science healing is the result of spiritual understanding, which reveals the absolute supremacy of Spirit, God, and the falsity of the claims of evil—disease and death included. A striking example of Jesus' ability to discriminate between the apparent and the real is recorded in the eighth chapter of Luke. When Jesus said of Jairus' daughter, "She is not dead, but sleepeth," we are told, "they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead." Because the Master understood Life, he was able to prove the truth of his statement. Christian Scientists endeavor to follow Christ Jesus in the apprehension and demonstration of the spiritual facts of being; and they are proving that Christ's religion has lost none of its healing power.
