The Phenomena of sickness and disease, so apparent to...

The Phenomena of sickness and disease, so apparent to physical sense, are the objective states of such so-called sense. Disease is not an entity. It is the supposititious effect of a false mental state. A Christian Scientist does not, therefore, diagnose or treat disease, or treat a physical body. He corrects the mental state by his knowledge of spiritual truth, and thus removes the cause of sickness and disease. An understanding of Christ Jesus' saying, "If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light," points to a means of helping others who have not gained that understanding. The logic of Mrs. Eddy's statement, as found on page 270 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," has not been refuted, nor can it be: "If a sense of disease produces suffering and a sense of ease antidotes suffering, disease is mental, not material. Hence the fact that the human mind alone suffers, is sick, and that the divine Mind alone heals;" similarly with the one to be found on page 302 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany": "Neither life nor death, health nor disease, can be produced on a corpse, whence mind has departed. This self-evident fact is proof that mind is the cause of all effect made manifest through so-called matter."
