I send this testimony with the hope that it may prove...

I send this testimony with the hope that it may prove to be a help to some one, as the testimonies of others have been to me. Never having been robust, even as a child, and with many ailments that seemed to culminate in a general breakdown manifested by extreme weakness, nervousness, very severe headaches occurring every few days, and constant pain in the eyes, though I had consulted and been treated by doctors and oculists of prominence, and had worn glasses for nearly eighteen years, I had reached a state of ill health that robbed me of all desire to live, since there seemed to be no relief from the constant pain and suffering and no hope of a life of usefulness.

Although I had known of Christian Science all my life, I had not a true knowledge of it and had never thought it held anything for me. A few years ago, when I needed more than material medicine could give me, Christian Science was mentioned in a casual way, and I was asked why I didn't give it a trial. I gave the matter no serious thought at the time, but shortly afterwards decided to learn more about it, though more to satisfy my curiosity than expecting to receive benefit from it. I wrote to a relative who I knew had been healed by it, and through her reply was encouraged to send for a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, though I was at a loss to know how my eyes would permit me to read it. For months I had been unable to read for even a few minutes without suffering from eyestrain and headache.

On the day that the copy of Science and Health came to me I read it for an hour and a half, and for several hours each day during the following days, with no resulting headache. After the first day I laid aside my glasses and have never had them on since. I did not realize that a change of thought had taken place, but truth was quietly at work. My general health began to improve and I again took up my household duties, the eyestrain disappeared and the headaches have gradually lessened both in frequency and severity.
