It required three months of persuasion on the part of a dear friend before I would consent to have anything to do with Christian Science; but in a very dark hour the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was put into my hands and brought the light which has never failed to guide and guard me throughout many years. The understanding of the immediate availability of the presence and power of God in all human experience first of all brought healing to my sight, which had been defective from early girlhood, and glasses were no longer needed. For the first time in my life I saw a star clearly, and could see near and distant objects with ease.

As I learned something of the real man made in the image and likeness of God, the fear of a nervous breakdown and overwork was overcome, and it has been proved to me again and again that active reliance on divine Mind does indeed impart increased power of endurance, strength, and enlarged capacity. During the years of weakness and ill health which preceded the coming of the truth to my thought I had acquired the habit of cigarette smoking, partly as a sedative and partly for companionship, as I was much alone, and the moment will never be forgetten when I discovered that it was no longer needed, nor enjoyed, but was displaced by the coming of that peace which the world can neither give nor take away. No words can express my gratitude for the understanding of the Bible which Christian Science gives, for the confidence that every promise in it is for each individual who is earnestly seeking, and that, like the child Samuel, all may come close enough to divine Love to say, "Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth."

As a business woman I have rejoiced in many proofs of this guidance and support and always feel that every right activity is governed by divine Mind. Lately a deeper sense of the real Church and of the operation of Christian Science as a world power has come to me, with greater gratitude for the unselfed life of our Leader and for her faithfulness in working on until she had not only given us the Christian Science textbook, but her other works. I am grateful for the Manual, the Trust Deeds, and the periodicals, all leading thought up to the spiritual understanding of God and man, and the overcoming of all that is unlike good.—(Miss) Mabel Wilkinson, Lithington, Manchester, England.
