A correspondent, who writes in a recent issue, is not a Christian Scientist, and evidently does not know the difference between Christian Science and all methods in which the human or carnal mind is the only factor at work.

The carnal mind, Paul tells us, is enmity against God. That is, the thoughts of the carnal mind are contrary to the thoughts of the divine Mind, that Mind which was also in Christ Jesus. This is clearly stated by Isaiah as follows, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord." Christian Science teaches one how to give up the carnal mind and its material methods, and gain the divine Mind and its spiritual means of healing and reforming. The transformation from sickness to health, sorrow to joy, sin to purity, through Christian Science, is certainly not brought about by any suggestions of the carnal mind, but through the renewing of the human mind by the divine Mind.

Christian Science cannot be used for evil in any way, and it cannot get into unscrupulous hands, for God, divine Mind, cannot be understood except by those who are born again, and are bringing forth the fruits of the Spirit. Hypnotic suggestion, on the other hand, can be used for evil just as well as for attempting to produce a beneficial effect. The mental method of Jesus in healing the sick, reforming the sinner, comforting the sorrowful, and raising the dead is the only safe method, and this is Christian Science.
