In the fall of 1917 I contracted a severe cold

In the fall of 1917 I contracted a severe cold. At first I did not heed the disturbance, not being inclined to allow myself to be overcome by sickness so easily, but when a high fever became manifest I thought it best to go to bed. The ailment took a serious turn and in a few days I had become very weak. My rooms being on the ground floor of my house, the tenants on the first floor paid very little attention to my condition at first, but when they saw how alarming it was they earnestly advised me to consult a physician. I did not agree to this, however, as I had read Der Herold der Christian Science and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, for several years: but to write to a practitioner was impossible, as I did not possess the strength or energy. The right sort of help soon came, however, for wholly unexpectedly a nephew visited me, and he notified my brother in Hannover. Through this brother's assistance the help of a Christian Science practitioner was obtained, and relief was at once noticeable. In addition to this trouble a very painful case of shingles had developed, which completely robbed me of physical strength. With God's help my condition improved day by day and I was soon well again. During the whole time I clung steadfastly to the truth. My neighbors wondered at my rapid recovery from such a serious illness, but I could only say, "With God all things are possible."

For this proof of the healing power of divine Love I give heartfelt thanks to God and gratitude to all who have helped me gain an understanding of this truth which makes free.
