Alone with God

Being alone with God is not loneliness. The understanding of how to be alone with God heals the loneliness of the world. When Jesus went apart to pray he entered into the joyous consciousness of ever present Love; he retired into the realm of the real to commune with the All-in-all. To be alone with God need not excite anyone's self-pity or pathos; it is a blessed privilege crowned with gifts supernal, bright with true reward. To be alone with God is to have that inner joy which bubbles like a spring of living water, constantly renewing itself because it is of God and expresses the divine ever activity. Reviewing certain of her life experiences Mrs. Eddy in 1866 wrote a yearning little poem entitled, "I'm Sitting Alone" (Poems, p. 8); but in the same volume (p. 18) we find another entitled, "Upward," which closes with the lines:—

God's eye is upon me—I am not alone
When onward and upward and heavenward borne.
