Good Will to the Soldier

The present age is daily unfolding greater opportunities for the demonstration of Christian Science. It is provable to-day as in the past that divine Love really does meet every need of mankind. One of the chief problems which perhaps confronts us to-day is how to think correctly regarding those Christian Scientists who have entered the armed forces of our country.

The thing which is most necessary is to obey the command given by Christ Jesus at the grave of Lazarus: namely, "Loose him, and let him go." In other words, the soldier must not be fettered by the fears and imaginations of mortal mind. No matter how perilous a position he may seem to be in, he is a soldier of God; and he goes to fight for the right, and must be free to rise above the limitations of mortal sense. With the army of the Lord he advances upon the hosts of error. He is armed with the two-edged sword which pierces even to the joints and marrow. The hosts of error, which are in reality only the myths of mortal mind, vanish at the coming of Christ, Truth, as the mist before the rising sun. They have no power to inflict death, to destroy man's life. God is the life of man, and man cannot be separated from God.

Man's divine creator will forever preserve him. The shield of Love is his strong defense, against which the shafts of error have no power. Error cannot conquer him, for the power of the one God is with him. It is an irresistible power, overthrowing the organized schemes and machinations of those most wise in worldly ways, and freeing the peoples of mesmerized and hypnotized nations so that they are made ready for "the glorious liberty of the children of God." He who goes forth with this thought is helping to establish the brotherhood of man and to bring God's kingdom "in earth, as it is in heaven."
