When reading the many helpful testimonies in our periodicals...

When reading the many helpful testimonies in our periodicals I have often thought that I also should like to add my experiences, but always the suggestion has come up, "I have had no wonderful healing like some of these people, so perhaps had better wait until I do!" Looking back over the last ten years, however, I find so much for which to be grateful that I feel it is time I availed myself of this opportunity of testifying to the great help which Christian Science has been to me. I did not come to it for physical healing, and for a long time took no interest in what I called the healing part, but I found that "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy answered the many questions which before seemed unanswerable, and that these answers were not theoretical but demonstrable and therefore true.

During the last six or seven years Christian Science has been my only physician, and it has been quicker and much more certain in its results than I ever found material remedies to be. But it is perhaps since the war broke out that I have felt most grateful for this teaching, and it seems quite impossible to express in words how much it has helped me. My husband is in the army, and it was difficult not to feel overwhelmed by conditions at first, but Christian Science has never failed us. Only those who have been through this experience can understand what it means to have the certain conviction through all these terrible times that God is indeed able and willing to protect and to save; that trials simply mean progress, not defeat. As an understanding of the truth helps in the big things, so it does in the least item of daily experience. It has helped me to overcome fear of my fellow beings, and to rise above the numerous small worries and fears which come to one who has possibly made much of little things.

During the war I have had to take three journeys abroad, and on each occasion was very thankful for my understanding of Christian Science; without it I should certainly have started with a good many anxious thoughts. The first time, I had to leave for Egypt at very short notice, and during the hottest time of the year. The journey was looked upon as difficult, and I was told that it was hardly possible to make connections in Paris that would enable me to get the boat at Marseilles, and to miss it meant several days' delay; however, I applied my understanding of Christian Science and also had help from a faithful practitioner, with the result that there were no delays, every connection was made, and though there had been no time to book a seat in the train or a berth on the boat there was always a place for me, though the crowds traveling were very great. When I arrived in Egypt I was also helped to overcome the effects of the extreme heat. On the other two journeys my experiences were similar, and on the last occasion I was healed of seasickness.
