Nearly a year ago on stepping out of the door, I slipped...

Nearly a year ago on stepping out of the door, I slipped and fell heavily on one arm and shoulder. Mortal sense tried to tell me I had broken my arm, but I immediately turned my thoughts to God and His perfect image or idea, to whom no accidents happen. I lay where I had fallen, thanking God for Christian Science, until I felt able to get up and go into the house. As all the members of our household were away except our ten-year-old son and myself, I asked him to help me realize the truth, so as to overcome a sense of great pain. This was accomplished in a very few minutes, though a dull ache continued and a sudden movement or twist would often nearly make me cry out from pain. When the time came to retire for the night I was confronted with the thought that I could not take my clothes off nor get others on, but working in Christian Science to the best of my understanding the act was accomplished, and each day afterwards I performed my regular duties. A few weeks after that, while shaving the back of my neck one day, I suddenly became aware that I was twisting my arm without any sense of pain, and I gave thanks that my healing was complete.

The understanding of God gained through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and other authorized literature, has been the only physician for our family of five for more than seven years. During most of this time there has been no practitioner or other student of Christian Science available. Though many times we have been called upon to prove our faith, there has never lacked sufficient understanding to meet our every need. Small-pox, scarlet fever, diphtheria, sprains and bruises, a long standing habit of using tobacco, both chewing and smoking, business worries, and many other troubles have all melted away before the realization of God's presence. While we were living where we could call a practitioner, we grew lax and depended on the better understanding of another, but on again being where there are no other students we find our understanding is sufficient for every need. This testimony is written with a sincere desire that it may encourage some one to try Christian Science and begin the loving task of working out his salvation.
