For several summers prior to the fall of 1907 I was...

For several summers prior to the fall of 1907 I was afflicted with malarial fever. As a result of the alternating chills and fevers I grew very thin, and the discomfort became almost unbearable, even to such an extent that death would have been welcome. The kind family physician had exhausted his means to relieve me, and as a last resort I was sent to a sanitarium for mineral baths, but these only robbed me of what strength I had. While I was there a friend advised that I give Christian Science a trial. She had previously talked to me about Science, but being atheistic in my beliefs I was naturally antagonistic. My dire extremity was God's opportunity, however, and I asked for treatment. I was completely healed in one week, and my whole thought was seemingly rearranged, so that I was receptive to the "still small voice" of Truth. Since then I have learned to love God with all my heart, and my dependence upon Him is now constant.

In the last seven years there have been many demonstrations in the home, and above all there has been a comforting sense of peace and harmony. I have also felt the protection of divine Love in my travels. During the summer of 1914, while in charge of an important expedition into Asia Minor, I placed absolute dependence upon divine Mind, and in spite of all the disorder there, was able to overcome several serious predicaments and bring the party into safety.

I am grateful for Life, Truth, and Love, and happy to know that God is worthy of the greatest love and gratitude.
