The Lectures

Prof. Hermann S. Hering delivered a lecture on Christian Science in the edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist. He was introduced by M. Dickinson, who said :—

Mankind's age-long desire for the peace that passeth all understanding was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth nearly twenty centuries ago. He realized that man is created in the image and likeness of God, and that God is Spirit and Love. It was through the complete understanding of the Principle of being that he was able to break all the so-called laws of the material world by healing the sick, feeding the multitude, and commanding the wind and waves. In the three centuries following, this concept of Deity dwelt with and was made manifest by followers of Jesus, and while the Principle has always been available to mankind for its use, yet man deliberately or ignorantly closed his consciousness to this truth and reverted to the unsuccessful struggle for happiness, peace, and health through material means.

Fifty years ago a New England woman, prostrated upon a bed of suffering, discovered that a true understanding of od and of our relation to Him would set aside the man-made laws of physical and medical science and heal the sick. Thus was born again in human consciousness the Christ, and in the past fifty years more and more earnest men and women have had this truth, or Science of Christianity, come into their lives to make them healthier, happier, and holier. A dim perception of this wonderful discovery makes each of us long for a clearer understanding, and that is the reason for this gathering today.—Billings Gazette.
