It is with love to God and gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, that I give my testimony of mental surgery. When quite a young girl I sprained an ankle badly. The surgeon said it was worse than a broken bone, and it was several weeks before I had the use of the foot. A few years later I sprained the same ankle again, and was confined to the house for several weeks. Some years after that the ankle was broken, and the surgeon attending me said it would be a year before I could walk on that foot, as the ankle had become very weak, and that I would always have to wear a high shoe and be very careful.

In the course of time I was persuaded to try Christian Science, as I was blind; and not only were my eyes perfectly healed, but the ankle also became strong and well. After several years in Christian Science, however, the ankle was again broken; but immediately springing to my feet I repeated over and over from Science and Health (p. 402) the statement, "In Science, no breakage nor dislocation can really occur," and I said to a friend who was with me that as I had had such sad experiences in materia medica with this ankle, I should now trust to God alone. I treated myself, as we are taught in Christian Science, realizing the allness of God and the nothingness of matter. That night the foot turned black and was very painful, but the bone which was protruding from the side went back to its place.

I used the ankle from the first, though not without limping considerably, depending upon the truth taught in Science and Health on the page referred to, "The material body manifests only what mortal mind believes, whether it be a broken bone, disease, or sin." I realized that as God's idea I could not have a broken bone, and on the fourth day walked a long distance and climbed a flight of stairs. The bone was not set by a surgeon, nor did I at any time consult with one, yet in four days was accomplished what a surgeon had declared on a previous occasion would take a year. That was nine years ago, and the ankle has remained strong and well ever since.
