The Lectures

On Friday evening [April 7] Bicknell Young delivered a lecture on Christian Science under the auspices of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist. The lecturer was introduced by H. Cornell Wilson, first reader, who said:—

Those who are unfamiliar with the means employed for bringing the subject of Christian Science to the attention of the public may be interested to hear of some of the opportunities which Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has provided.

There are the church services. The Sunday services in Christian Science churches have for their principal feature the Lesson-Sermon as published in the Quarterly Bible Lessons. This sermon is made up of selections read alternately from the bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Christian Science text-book. Wednesday evening meetings are held, which are mainly devoted to testimonies of Christian Science healing. Free public reading rooms are also maintained in communities where there are Christian Science organizations. There are issued by The Christian Science Publishing Society five periodicals,—two published monthly, one weekly, one quarterly, and daily newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor. There are also the lectures on christian Science given by members of the Christian Science board of lectureship. These lectures present Christian Science accurately, and correct misconceptions of the subject which may prevail in the public thought.
