[Written for the Sentinel]

A Song of Cheer

They said 'twas the old sweet story;
To me it was very new:
It dawned on an outer darkness,
It said only good is true.

Only the good is true!
All things are made anew;
Life opens out,
See error's rout;
See what God gives to you,—
Freedom from doubt.

Only the good is true!
Nothing remains to rue;
All good is here,
All good is now;
Hear what Love sings to you,
Love's song is clear.

Hark to the song of cheer!
Banished are all things drear,
Banished all cause of fear;
Heaven is now and here.
